Magic Millions Weanlings Day-1: $6.187m Swettenham Dispersal
Highlight of the action on Day-1 at the Magic Millions National Sale was the 39-lots Swettenham Stud dispersal which grossed $6,187,000 at an average $158,641. Swettenham's Adam Sangster commented: "I am particularly delighted with the cross section of purchasers. I was glad to see such strong bidding on the lots. It's always sad to see the end of an era, but I'm excited about the new journey ahead. There's big shoes to fill!"

Victoria's Euroa-based Larneuk Stud principal Neville Murdoch has secured the rights to regally-bred unraced 3YO colt Bramshaw: by star Coolmore stallion & this season's runaway leader on the Australian sires table Encosta de Lago (Fairy King-Shoal Creek, by Star Way) from blue hen producer Cotehele House (My Swanee-Eight Carat, by Pieces Of Eight), making him a half-brother to Gr3-winning & multiple Gr1-placed former Woodlands Stud & now Darley stallion Commannds (Danehill-Cotehele House) & 5-time Gr1-winning Emirates Park stallion Danewin  (Danehill-Cotehele House).

Scarborough's Aust-Bound Mare Wins US Gr2  E-mail

Meanwhile Victorian breeder Bob Scarborough's 5YO mare Mauralakana (Muhtathir-Jimkana, by Double Bed) "unleashed an explosive bid on the turn & steam-rolled past foes" to score a runaway 3-lengths victory in the weekend's US$150,000 Gr2 Sheepshead Bay Handicap (11 furlongs on turf) for fillies & mares at Belmont Park in New York, reported thoroughbredtimes.com.

One of our North East Thoroughbred Members, Ken King has been enjoying a great deal of success in recent times with Helideck.

The four year old gelding who is owned by a large syndicate headed up by Ken King (also the breeder of Helideck at his Euroa property Parador Park) has won his last three starts in Queensland including Eagle Farm (April 26), the Prime Ministers Cup at the Gold Coast (May 3) in track record time and Saturday's Group 3 BTC Sprint at Doomben.

Pitt's Beijing Games dream shattered  E-mail

Disappointment for Janelle Pitts and Mr. Showoff, with Mr Showoff (known as Red) sustaining a preparation ending injury while competing at one of the World's largest equine events - Badminton.

The pair will are putting together plans to return to Australia, where Janelle will resume employment at Larnuek Stud near Euroa, and Mr. Showoff will rehabilitate. For Janelle's full report - click here
