weekend hustler imageWith Austrialian horses becoming increasingly recognised on the World stage, it is no suprise that most of these flag bearers have strong links to North East Victoria.

Weekend Hustler (pictured), who was recently rated the best 3 year old in the World, and equalled Kingston Towns record of 6 Group 1 wins in a season is owned in North East interests. Jill Kewish is the majority share holder (25%) in the Ross McDonald trained superstar, and Jill also being an owner of "Rockmount," a pre-training property at Longwood near Euroa.

apache catOne of the Australia's most distinctive race horses, Apache Cat made it three out of three wins in 2008 when he took out the T.J. Smith Stakes (Group 1) at Royal Randwick on Saturday. The big baldy faced chestnut who sports 4 big white socks, has not only won each of his three races this year, but they have all come at Group 1 level.

Fantastic Autumn results from the track  E-mail

With the racing focus switching to Sydney for their big Autum Carnival, it is worth reflecting on a three outstanding results achieved over the Melbourne and Adelaide Autumn carnivals.

Light Fantastic

Firstly, one of the most promising horses to burst onto the racing scene in recent years is a striking grey named Light Fantastic. Despite a late start to his racing career, the Gelding who was bred by Wood Nook Farm (Nagambie) graduated from a maiden win at Kyneton to the Australian Guineas (Group 1) at Flemington in a space of just 5 weeks. The Mick Price trained galloper had strung together 4 impressive wins from his 4 starts before going for a spell, to prepare for a tilt at the W.S Cox Plate as a 4yo next spring.
