NICCONI A RISING STAR FOR BIANCONI

Nicconi stamped himself a potential autumn carnival star with a scintillating first up win in the valleyevents.net.au Handicap (1000m) at Moonee Valley tonight.

A winner and Group Three placegetter from his two runs in his initial campaign, Nicconi stood up as an early threat to the boom three-year-old Whobegotyou in the Group One Cadbury Guineas in March.

A top class performer throughout his career, the Group winner Kaphero will race on through the spring and autumn before preparing to serve his first book of mares in 2009.Swettenham Stud's Adam Sangster said he was thrilled to be able to purchase the Danzero sprinter.

First Blood to Light Fantastic  E-mail
Exiting and still unbeaten Wood Nook Farm owned Light Fantastic has kept his untarnished record intact.

Light Fantastic, a winner of all four starts in the autumn, stepped up another level with a superb win over the 1400m journey first-up.
Ridden by Craig Newitt, he stalked Weekend Hussler throughout in midfield but came inside rounding the bend.

He not only drew level to Weekend Hussler who was knuckling down on the outside but went past and reigned in Maldivian, who drew to the lead and fought on well.

Denon on fire in Europe  E-mail

Young Victorian shuttle sire Denon (USA) has joined the ranks of Leading First Season European Sires with his fifth individual winner in Italy at the weekend.

His record now stands at five winners and three others placed from just 13 starters, which is an outstanding result by a sire that was not expected to find such early form.

“To this stage Denon has just 15 named two year olds so he is doing a terrific job with very little fire power against his main rivals, many of whom have already had over 30, and up to 45, runners,” said Mike Becker of Independent Stallions, which stands Denon in Victoria.
